Studio Mural Project

I'm muraling my l'il studio by the sea and I'm going to post the progress. The composition and style are borrowed from Scott Wills’ work on “Samurai Jack.” (Scott Wills is an amazing animation background painter.) In the "old days" students of painting would copy the Masters to learn technique, etc. So this is my personal learning project...painting in the style of an artist I admire. His work is colorful and fun and deceptively simple...a perfect application for a mural project. Here's "phase one" complete...

Today's Scribble

It’s “only” 11 o’clock

but it feels like 3 a.m.

Gotta get up at five

gotta go to sleep now…

Listened to an interview with the writer,

watched a documentary about the filmmaker,

read an article about the artist

and a book about the warrior

and the spiritual leaders.

Where am I now

in this journey?

Lost and confused

near hopeless

empty and wanting

seeds that want growing…

Desert fruits grow somehow

on a drop of water.

A sapling finds its way

in the shadow of the hemlock and fir.

I’m still “wandering the desert”

In search of answers

And maybe treasure, too.

But I know it’s just torture

and testing

of a mind and a body

too human or not human enough

for this struggle and this journey

while punching the time clock

and dreaming of sea cliffs and paintings and stories…

French Hiss

Saw a sticker on a car today that read "French Kiss" in a swirly urban font. I thought it read French HISS. (I think "French Hiss" is cooler-issss...)
