About Suzanne

Background

Suzanne Fredette is an independent illustrator and designer specializing in traditional and digital animation for web and film.  She provides character design, illustration and animation, as well as background painting for creative projects, and brings to her assignments a comprehensive knowledge in story development, pre- and post-production experience, and exceptional creative writing skills.

In addition to animation, Suzanne combines her diverse visual arts expertise to meet a broad range of needs for clients in the creative, nonprofit and corporate fields. Whether traditional or digital in medium, she can customize projects that need illustration, design, or Flash animation for web sites or presentations. Having worked for large corporations, small businesses, and nonprofits, she has in-depth experience in conceptualizing and producing images and messaging for successful marketing and advertising campaigns. Whether it’s designing logos, creating brand identity, or developing online presentations, she will effectively manage assignments from initial concept to final output.

Philosophy

“When working with clients,” says Suzanne, “the most important goal is to listen and understand their needs. It’s my job to offer suggestions and ideas based on the information I gather about clients’ projects and determine how the images and messaging will successfully enhance their visibility and impact their target audiences. My goal is to establish long-term relationships, positioning myself as the reliable, go-to artist when needs arise.”

Suzanimation

In 2009, Suzanne decided to follow her “passion for character animation, character design, and storytelling,” and pursue an intensive 3D Animation Certificate from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) at Boston University, Waltham, MA.  During her studies she gained proficiency in Autodesk Maya (Character animation, modeling, texturing) as well as Adobe After Effects and Premier.

As part of her training she was responsible for co-producing a 30-second animated Public Service Announcement for the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence and its “1000 Cranes 2000 Butterflies” fundraising campaign. For this project she co-developed the concept and story, produced the animatic, and animated the main character. In addition, she created textures and background paintings in Photoshop. The project was completed in four intense weeks to meet the client deadline.

“Suzanne approaches any new challenge with a great attitude and a unique perspective. She is an extremely talented, creative person who possesses the traditional and technical skills to bring her ideas to life. I have always been amazed by her ability to develop a strong concept, endure and execute in a way that does the concept justice. Beyond all of her artistic skills, she has an excellent personality.  Working alongside Suzanne is always a pleasure.  She would be a true asset to any creative venture.”
Anthony Marquette, Teacher Assistant at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) at Boston University.

Technical Illustration

While Suzanne specializes in animation, she welcomes the opportunity to be part of any creative endeavor, whether it’s coming up with a new advertising concept or using her technical skills for a client’s project. In her recent work for GE Healthcare, she was hired to create multiple technical illustrations of laboratory processes:

“Suzanne did an amazing job on her technical illustrations for our client, GE Healthcare.  She took a confusing mishmash of scientific tubes, bags, connectors and carts and turned them into clear, crisp illustrations of laboratory processes for a number of important GE whitepapers.  Her professional demeanor in meetings with our client, along with her completion of the work on time and on budget, means we’ll be using Suzanne again!”

Charitable endeavors

Following her deep sense of community, Suzanne donates much of her time to creating branding, mailings, brochures, flyers, and posters to various arts organizations, such as Amazing Things Arts Center www.amazingthings.org and Fountain Street Studios www.fountainstreetstudios.com in Framingham, MA, as well as Boston-based Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity www.strikeachordmusicians.org.

“Suzanne Fredette has been creating our program book - a 32 page full color mailing and handout piece - for three years. Her work is imaginative, clean and always on time. She's a self starter who drives the difficult project of corralling a dozen sources for input for the book and making the product seem new and exciting each time. She has worked on other various projects for us. We are lucky to have her. Besides being a wonderful designer, she is a caring and positive influence on the people around her.”
